Y5 Conway 2023, by Mr Brown

We have had a great couple of days at the Conway Centre.

We have had a go at canoeing, the Via Ferrata, climbing and the ropes/zip course. Some of us have had a chance to orienteer and we have all had a go at the nightline. Here are just a few photos.

Year 5 and 6 received a visit from some of the Cheshire Phoenix players for a 'Health Roadshow'. 

The worked across stations learning basketball drills, ways to stay healthy through our food choices and the hazardous effects of smoking. We look forward to the coaching session coming up.

We had an amazing Beatbox day today with James. We learnt how to beatbox, wrote our own raps and them performed them for the rest of the class.

A huge thank you to everyone who supported our recent Valentine themed bake sale in anyway. As always, this was well supported and there was an impressive array of cakes. A total of £322.62 was raised to go towards PTA funds.

Today we have been working with Chef Emma. We talked about how important it is to eat a variety of foods and to try new food experiences. We made a pasta meal using loads of tasty vegetables and a pizza bread wheel. We have had a brilliant day!.

Today we have been studying the life cycle of a plant and how the seeds of plants grow, what they need and how they are dispersed.

PTA Bake Sale

A huge thank you to everyone who supported our recent PTA bake sale. An incredible £315.69 was raised, which will go towards the PTA contribution to the theatre. Every child at Oldfield will benefit from this.  

A special thank you to Catherine Golightly and her team for organising the event and setting everything up. Thank you to everyone who supported the event by baking, sending in cakes and purchasing cakes. It was lovely to see our families together in the hall.

 

Football V Chester Blue Coat, by Mr Brown

We played our first league match of the season away at Chester Blur Coat winning 3-1 with goals from Ted, Chris and Reuben. The whole team played well and we look forward to our next match.

Thank you to our families who were able to help with transport and support.

Cherry Grove, Upton Mill View, Upton Heath and JH Godwin are also in our league. We will share the future results.

Inter Schools Rounders Tournament, by Mrs Percival

On Monday a group of Y5 and Y6 children attended the Chester schools Rounders tournament in which over 20 teams took part. Our team won 3 out of their 4 matches and narrowly missed the semi-finals by one point. What we were most impressed with was their team spirit and sportsmanship, they were a real credit to Oldfield.

PTA Bake Sale

Thank you so much to everyone who supported our cake sale by contributing and / or buying cakes at the end of the school day. What an incredibly creative array of designs there were on the theme of Celebration! A total of £290.30 was raised, all of which will go towards PTA funded projects. A special thank you to Catherine Golightly and her team of volunteers for organising and running the event.

Parachute investigation, by Mrs Percival

We have been investigating whether the surface area size of a parachute affects the time it takes a parachute to fall to the ground. We made sure that we only had one variable in our investigation and that we kept our test fair. We discovered that the larger the surface area, the longer it took for the parachute to fall to the ground.

We were working with Chef James today. We studied the different types of taste we can experience, made our own dough and pizzas then made a vegetanle biriyani. The whole school smelt delicious as the spices travelled down the corridor.

Y5 Forest Schools, by Mrs Percival

We had a fabulous Forest Schools day with Mr Hadfield. We learnt about the different types of trees on our grounds, cleared a site and built a den together, explored the forest looking for bugs and practised lighting fires before toasting marshmallows around the fire pit. We can't wait until next week.

We worked with some History students from Chester University this week. We were being historical detectives, investigating the past through artefacts.
