Year 3 had a brilliant trip into Roman Chester! They explored around the Grosvenor Museum and enjoyed a workshop looking at lots of Roman artefacts. They did some Roman army training at the amphitheatre before walking all the way back to school. The children's behaviour was brilliant and it was lovely chatting to them as we walked along the canal on a sunny day :)

Yesterday, Year 3 spent the afternoon working with artist Faith Bebbington. They worked on a whole school project about the history of Oldfield!

After lots of practice, the Year 3 children were really pleased with their Christmas stockings! They also enjoyed creating some 'gingerbread house' drawings for their Christmas cards :)

Y3 Setting descriptions for 'Winter's Child', by Mrs Hover

After looking at the beautiful illustrations of the forest scene, the children created similes around the picture. We then used these to create a setting description, adding more adjectives and prepositions to really paint a picture of the scene in the reader's mind. We are really proud of the children's final descriptions :)

Throughout the year we will participate in sports competitions.

Our Y5/6 team took part in a tournament organised by the Liverpool FC Foundation.

In the English Schools under 11 football competition, we were unlucky to lose 1-0 to Upton Heath in a very close semi-final.

Y3 Music 4 Life Guitar, by Mr Brown

We enjoyed performing for our friends and family today.

Ivy	1. Hello and good morning, welcome to our guitar concert.
Theo W	2. Over the last 10 weeks we have been learning about and how to play guitar with Robyn and Ollie from Music 4 Life.
Alistair	3. The first thing we learnt was the parts of the guitar.
Harri	4. This part here is the head
Sam	5. This part is called the neck
Sophia	6. Then we have the body,
Holly	7. This part here is the bridge,
Max	8. Then we have the nut,
Maisy	9. The frets are the parts separated by the lines
Janani	10. And finally the strings.
Halle	11. We then learnt a sentence to help with our string names:
ALL	12. (Everyone together) Elephants And Donkeys Grow Big Ears
Ray	13. We are going to play some of the songs we have been learning.
Jude	14. Our first song is called Minor Swing, and in this song we learnt how to play open strings.
Noah	15. "Minor Swing" is a gypsy jazz tune composed by Django Reinhardt and Stéphane Grappelli.
Darcy	16. The next song is called Flamenco Frenzy. In this song we practised holding down our first fret.
Evan	17. Flamenco music is from Spain.
Harri	18. The next song we are going to play is the James Bond theme. In this song we practised using different frets and strings.
Amelie	19. This was first composed by Monty Norman and adapted by John Barry.
Kane	20. The next song is We Will Rock You. This song uses the first chord we have learnt called E minor
Theo R	21. We Will Rock You was composed by Brian May and performed by his band Queen
William	22. We have loved learning about the guitar because we liked learning the tunes.
Lennie	23. The next song we are playing is called Eddie's Blues. In this song we practised using rests to create different rhythms.
Lottie	24. Blues is a type of music from the Deep South of the United States.
Denny	25. Thank you for coming to our concert. We hope you enjoyed our performance.

Once again, we are so proud of the Year 3 children. They were one of the younger groups of children at the AmaSing concert and staff from other schools commented on their enthusiasm and performance skills. They also behaved beautifully :)
