Date: 4th Nov 2022 @ 3:33pm
Today Leon from Chester Zoo came into Year 2 to talk about animal conservation. The children learnt about protecting animals and ways in which the zoo prevents extinction. They all enjoyed exploring the snake skin, tortoise shell and leopard fur and showed great empathy when discussing the reasons why these animals are hunted. There were lots of giggles when they were pretending to be meerkats!
Another fun Friday today : )
Year 2 Super Little Scientists, by Mrs Harrison
Date: 2nd Nov 2022 @ 10:40am
Year 2 had a lovely surprise this morning as Lauren from Super Little Scientist joined us to teach us about birds. We learnt about...
- What penguins need to survive in their habitats (Antarctic, forest in New Zealand and beaches in South Africa) and how they stay warm
- Which beak works best to capture their food
- Which colour worm is best camouflaged
We had an incredible time and absolutely loved learning more about how birds survive.

Year 2 Forest School, by Miss Jones
Date: 21st Oct 2022 @ 3:32pm
What a wonderful way to end our first half term! The children have been delightful and it has been a joy to experience today with them. I am sure they will tell you all of the exciting bits about today but I am truly proud of them. They demonstrated just what sensible, resourceful, respectful and caring Year two’s they are. I tried to capture the magic from behind the camera and the children were most impressed I managed to capture a few dragon sneeze sparks!!!
Thank you Year 2 for a fun Forest day! Have the best half term!

On Monday a group of Y5 and Y6 children attended the Chester schools Rounders tournament in which over 20 teams took part. Our team won 3 out of their 4 matches and narrowly missed the semi-finals by one point. What we were most impressed with was their team spirit and sportsmanship, they were a real credit to Oldfield.

Y2 Forest School, by Miss Anders
Date: 18th Mar 2022 @ 3:45pm
Today Year 2 enjoyed a day of Forest school with Mr Hadfield. Luckily, the sun was shining!
We started by looking at a range of interesting objects that Mr Hadfield had brought to show us including herbivore and carnivore skulls and different birds' nests. We listened to see if we could identify some of the birdsong in our school grounds and watched a magpie flying to and from its nest at the top of one of the trees in our school grounds.
Next we worked together to make a 'boy size' shelter using natural materials and in small groups we made 'homes' for a range of superheroes and toy figures. There were even tennis courts and hot tubs included!
Using a dragons sneeze we burned materials such as teabags and cotton wool but one of our favourite activities was toasting marshmallows by the fire pit - delicious!
Mr Hadfield finished off the day by reading the book 'The King of Tiny Things' and then we went hunting for minibeasts. We found slugs, ladybirds, woodlice and plenty of worms!
We all had a fantastic day learning more about our school grounds!

Year 2 World Book Day, by Miss Jones
Date: 3rd Mar 2022 @ 5:16pm
We have had a wonderful day celebrating World Book Day today. It was so lovely to see the children in their outfits and hear them talk about their favourite books. We enjoyed looking at each other's favourites too during Buddy Reading. The children read beautifully to each other and there was a real buzz around our classroom the enthusiasm the children had for reading was contagious.
As part of our World Book Day celebrations, the children in Year 2 were given a box of beautiful new books by the PTA. The children have loved exploring them in small groups today. Thank you very much to all involved with the PTA. I am sure we will enjoy these books for many years to come.
The children also enjoyed taking part in a World Book Day themed quiz in small teams. They really enjoyed coming up with their own quiz team name too. We also made bookmarks to use in class.
Dragons cause mayhem in Year 2, by Miss Jones
Date: 18th Jan 2022 @ 4:42pm
Dragons have cause mayhem in the year 2 classroom today. The children enjoyed looking for clues to help work out what the dragons were doing in our class during lunchtime.
They were very mischievous, little things!
We used the clues to write sentences using verbs to tell someone else what the dragons had been up to. We also imagined what they would be doing if they were still here!
Ask your child to tell you some of the things those naughty dragons were doing.
Year 2 sketching, by Miss Jones
Date: 17th Jan 2022 @ 2:24pm
Year 2 have enjoyed sketching dragon eyes in our art lesson today. We have been exploring how to use different grades of sketching pencils to sketch with and to add tone.
