Year 1 RE, by Mrs Bailey
Date: 8th Nov 2024 @ 11:30am
As part of our RE topic this term we have been thinking about what is meant by the idea of something 'precious'. We thought about gifts we give that have a cost to them and gifts that we don't pay for.
We realised that we are all a gift to our family and friends.
We wrote some gifts that we are going to give that don't cost anything and put these in a gift bag.
Some of our gifts:
I will be kind.
I will tidy my bedroom.
I will share.
I will be helpful.
I will smile at people.

Toys Past and Present in Year 1, by Mrs Bailey
Date: 8th Sep 2024 @ 6:25pm
In our first lesson on Toys Past and Present, we started to describe the charcteristics of toys. We enjoyed describing toys from our class feely bag and our friends trying to work out what we were describing. We used words such as: hard, soft, fluffy, squishy, bendy, floppy, smooth, rough, bumpy, taller than ...., smaller than .... to describe things in the classroom that we like to play with. We linked this to items we like to hold that help us to feel calm.
Children will get the opportunity to bring in a toy from home to share with us all on Friday 20th September - more information on our class page.

Explorers in Year 1, by Mrs Bailey
Date: 5th Jan 2024 @ 4:58pm
We have enjoyed learning about a very famous explorer called Christopher Columbus. We discovered that he was an explorer amd compared what life was like in the 1400's to life now.
The children enjoyed pretending they were Christopher Columbus and telling us what they were thinking as people around them told him it wasn't a good idea to go exploring. We imagined being on one of the three ships setting off on their exploration and learnt about what life would have been like on the ship, what they ate, where they slept, how they kept themselves safe, how they communicated with each other and their family and friends and the work that they needed to.
Thank you to the Kings students for playing the Columbus board game with us this afternoon to help us remember our learning from the morning.

Learning in Year 1, by Mrs Bailey
Date: 24th Nov 2023 @ 5:06pm
We've had a busy week in Year 1 learning new songs for our Christmas performance. They're really catchy and keep coming into our mind! Mrs Turnbull worked with us to create something we are going to be wearing for our performance.
In PE we have been learning how to punt a ball (striking the ball with our instep), which was lots of fun. We all got so much better at it as we practised!
We finished our history topic today, using our knowledge of toys from the past and toys in the present to do posters showing what we would have in our museum.
Our tool of the week is having a drink of water and asking an adult if we can go for a walk.
