In maths this week the children played a game called True or False. They worked on their addition and subtraction facts to 20 by running to hoops and collecting a calculation. As a team they used mental maths to work out the answers and then decided whether it was true or false. The team to empty their hoop were the winners!

This week the Pip Group were learning about instructions. As part of this work they made jam sandwiches and looked carefully at each instruction. The children enjoyed eating their sandwiches!
Down Syndrome Day in Y1, by Miss Lynch

The children learned all about Down Syndrome. They took part in some activities outdoors to raise the profile of Down Syndome. They also learned 10 basic Makaton signs and and enjoyed using these to communicate to each other.

Year 1 were fantastic at the Mini Kickers Festival! We played five matches, winning four and drawing one! We almost won the whole festival but narrowly missed out on goal difference making us runners up! I was the proudest teacher in the world watching my boys! Thank you to all the parents for their support.
Y1 Nature sculptures and echo-art, by Miss Lynch

The children have been learning about an artist called Andy Goldsworthy this week. They have created artwork in the outdoors using similar materials to those used by the artist. The children worked together to find grass, leaves, twigs, stones and weeds to create their echo-sculpture.

Year 1 have been planting beans and are keeping a diary of how they grow over the next few weeks. Eoghan and Zac were excited to see that their plants were first to pop through the soil.

The children enjoyed playing a number game this week called 'Middle Money'. The children raced to the money in the middle by taking a step forward every time they answered a halving question correctly.

We had a wonderful day at the farm! The children were so well behaved. They listened to all the rules and were very sensible when stroking and feeding the animals. After a well deserved lunch, the children let off some steam in the Adventure Playground. Thank you to all of our parent helpers. We couldn't have done it without you! :)

This week we have been looking at instructions. The children wrote instructions for making a pancake. They had a lovely afternoon following the instructions, cooking pancakes and eating them! Hopefully they will have room for their tea tonight!

The children used their senses to help a little girl called Ella find her lost teddy. Clues were given to the children and they had to use their senses to solve the puzzle.
Clues:
He smelt of mint, liked apples, sounded squeaky, felt soft, and his paw prints were 10cm wide.
Y1 making 'Messy Maps', by Miss Lynch

The children enjoyed working in small groups creating maps. They were learning to visualise our classroom and were able to locate different areas within the classroom. Some children even managed to add labels. The children then had the chance to walk around looking at each other's work and talked about what they liked about each other's work.

Today we organised a maths quiz for the chidlren. The children were in teams and they had to create a team name. They had 10 questions which related to the maths work we have covered in class. In the end we had two winning teams who won a little chocolate as a prize!

Goldilocks found and questioned by Police in Year 1, by Miss Lynch

This week Goldilocks has had a difficult week. She has been questioned by the Police and finally admitted that it was her who broke in to the Three Bears Cottage! The children have enjoyed pretending to be Goldilocks and have written letters to the Three Bears apologising for her actions.
We have also be learning a poem about Teddy Bears this week. Year 1 are brilliant at performing the poem from memory and have learned actions. We even performed it to the Year 3 children who were very impressed and gave them a huge round of applause.
